Flash From the Past

Here’s an article that was printed in “The Bugle” the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Foundation newsletter, courtesy of founding member Kreston Peckham The date is 2006 and it brings us back to one of our earliest projects. Part of that project, although not mentioned, was funding the resortation and preservation of the bullet holed slouch of Capt, later Brigadier General (brevet) Frederick Winkler of the 26th Wisconsin.

Both Fairchild and Winkler were wounded on the 1st Day at Gettysburg. Both would also had political careers in Wisconsin after the war.
