APG Raffle to Support our Gettysburg Project 2018!

Framed 16×12″ print of LTC Williamson

The Artist Preservation Group is happy to announce a raffle to help fund our Gettysburg Project 2018 where our goal is to donate $10,000 to the American Battlefield Trust for the preservation of land on Seminary Ridge. Ambitious? Yes, it is. With your support, we are confident we will meet our goal!

We are raffling off a 16×12″ framed canvas giclee print of LTC Henry Watson Williamson of the 6th Virginia Infantry painted by the renowned historical artist (and APG member!) Keith Rocco.

As a Virginia Military Institute graduate, Williamson saw his first service in the Mexican war in a battery commanded by Braxton Bragg. Working as a civil engineer at the outbreak of the Civil War, Williamson joined the militia as a private but was elected Lieutenant Colonel of the 6th VA in May of 1862. The 6th fought in every major battle that Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia participated in as part of BG William B. Mahone’s brigade. Wounded three times, Williamson lost most of his left arm to the war but escaped with his life. After the war, he taught at VMI and then worked as a construction engineer for the Eastern Seaboard Railroad. He died in 1884 and is buried at VMI.

Raffle tickets are on sale in our online store now. They are selling at $5 for one, $12 for three, and $20 for five.  If you prefer, you can mail a check or money order to the APG at 2221 Hunters Rd SW Roanoke, VA 24015.

Good luck!
