The Artist Preservation Group was able to leverage their $10,000 donation to the Civil War Trust to be a key to saving this important Civil War site. In an email to our founder, Mike Stelzel, David Duncan of the Civil War Trust explains:
Mike, was able to track down the info from Tom. The easement is not currently scheduled to close until November of this year. He does not anticipate any problems, but with easements, a landowner can literally change their mind at any time. That said, we feel good about this one, so I think you are in good shape telling your folks that the APG gift for this land at Kelly’s Ford will be the sole gift that ensures its preservation. It will ensure that we can take advantage of a $72,000 federal American Battlefield Protection Program matching grant, as well as leverage an $86,000 landowner donation of value in the property. In other words, your gift is matched by $158,000, of a $15.80-to-$1 match, assuming a $10,000 gift. Hope this helps, and many thanks.
